We're hoping to make this a more frequent thing since we've decided to stop releasing new features on the free web build of Starwhal and move into completing the game and then releasing it on various platforms.

First things first, we want to thank everyone that came out to the Wonder Geeks Activate 3 event last night. We got to show off our new build with a few new tweaks and features, met some crazy people, and overall had a great time. We hope to do more of these types of events.

Now quickly to the updates:

New Death Animation
This is something so simple yet packs a giant punch. We are really happy with how it turned out and we still have a bit more tweaking to it to make it look awesome. Here's a little preview in motion:

3, 2, 1 Countdown
Now we have a countdown timer at the beginning of every round and match. This was really something that helped players collect themselves before the action.

Heart Animation
Now you can see a small animation of the heart disappearing from your "lifebar" to emphasize that you did indeed lose a heart.

Dynamic Colour
Now it's not a complete feature yet but we are one step closer to having you be able to choose your Narwhal's colour. More about that when we have more to show.

New Levels
We quickly threw together 2 new level configurations to test out. It's not pretty but we're playing around to see what we can do and how people play them. Here they are in the editor. Dots are the spawn positions.

No, you are not crazy! We did in fact have a bit of a "webzone facelift". It was more than 5 years ago that we quickly threw something up so that we could have a place to show off Marvin's Mittens and what was in development. Now with a few more games under our belt we found it was about time we polished things off. In the future we hope to deliver to you a seperate page to show off our library of games.

Hope you guys enjoy it.

Starwhal: Just the Tip has been getting an amazing amount of positive response, more than we had imagined when we first were playing around with grey capsules in the first couple hours of Global Game Jam 2013. Since then we've been getting a steady flow of players to the starwhal.com site, featured on Rock Paper Shotgun and FreeIndieGam.es, and made appearances to multiple gaming events. It's a bit late to highlight some of these events but I don't see the harm in it.

Dirty Rectangles
We made our first public appearance at a local indie game event where we showed off, for the first time, 4 player narwhal action. Everyone was very receptive and if you are ever in the Ottawa area you should definitely check out one of their monthly meetups.

Wild Rumpus

The Wild Rumpus
Indie games on a boat, what more can I say. We were approached and asked if we wanted Starwhal to showcase in one of their events. We were super thrilled and if it weren't for the event being in London we would have loved to have been there. We were beside big wigs like Samurai Gunn, Johann Sebastian Joust, Towerfall, Nidhogg, and a live preformance by Chipzel. Just from looking at the pictures it looked like it was a blast. Check out this sweet reel. http://vimeo.com/66275750

Ottawa International Game Conference
We managed to slip into the 2nd annual OIGC held in our hometown of Ottawa. We got a sweet demo booth to showcase Starwhal in all it's glory. Thousands of industry professionals, students, and gamers got to duke it out narwhal a narwhal in the best way, in person. Because we were manning the booth we were able to talk to fans both old and new. We got a huge amount of happiness and pride watching people enjoy Starwhal and we hope to continue improving the game and do more of these events.

Wonder Geeks Activate! 3: Retro-Active
With that all out of the way we are proud to announce that Starwhal will be showcasing in the third Wonder Geeks Activate! event. The event will showcase art, music, and games that throwback to the 80s and 90s. If you're in town and 19+ years of age, stop on by, come talk to us, and most importantly play some Starwhal.

Another year another Game Jam and team Breakfall (with guest star Developer X) were beckoned to another 48hr crunch.

This year we were given the theme in the form of an audio clip. After a puzzling couple seconds we figured it out to be the sound of a heart beating and we were off.

We've made a game about a philandering clay king, a crazy trigger happy panda, and cute cupcakes locked in a tasty feud, but this time we wanted to make a game that was incredibly simple,  purely fun, and competitive. Eventually we came to the idea of dueling narwhals in space, wrapped in an old 80's look.

So grab a friend and try it out!
